Pagan-Friendly Makeup?

Friday, February 17, 2012

I'm not sure why but I figured I'd post a couple pictures of makeup I've done recently. Most of my makeup is done mindfully. I keep colour close in mind (think colour Magick) as well as shape. It can enhance, eccentuate, or totally change my energy and personality for the day. You can make it work to strengthen you or ground you, help you become reflective (think purples and blues) or out-going (think oranges and reds). I will write more about the Pagan aspects of modern makeup when the weeks for M come around, so stay tuned!

These photos are honest and un-edited, so please spare me any negative comments - we all have our own struggles and insecurities.

I list all the eyeshadows used that I can remember, but don't list the higlight colours (which goes on the brow). I usually use any matte skintone colour, or any shimmery champagne colour as highlight. I just can't remember what I used in any of the pictures because I usually just grab any number of my highlights.

A look I did this past Winter, which reminded me of cranberries and cocoa.
Eyeshadows used:
  • Inner Eye: Queen Phyllis (pale gold), Bare Escentuals
  • Lid: Star Violet (frosty burgundy), MAC
  • Crease: Sketch (dark burgundy), MAC
  • Outter-V: Either Carbon (black) or a dark brown (unknown)

The look I did for this Valentine's day - soft but flirty.
Eyeshadows used:
  • Inner Eye: Queen Phyllis (pale gold), Bare Escentuals
  • Lid: Citrus Twist (peachy pink), Bare Escentuals
  • Crease and Outter-V: Soul Sister (warm plum), Bare Escentuals

A dark burgundy look (this type of colour if one of my favourites, especially for cold weather).
Eyeshadows Used:
  • All-Over: Sketch (dark burgundy), MAC
  • Crease: Neutral, skin-toned tan (by L'Ancome)
  • Outter-V: Carbon (black), MAC

My first-ever New Year's Eve look - black and gold. (I'm not sure how well you can actually see the gold though - I took this photo just before New Year's, after I'd worn the makeup for like 10 hours. You can even see the sore marks on my nose from my glasses.)
Eyeshadows Used:
  • Lid: Queen Phyllis (pale gold), Bare Escentuals
  • Outter-V: Carbon (black), MAC

An earthier look. (Note: I don't like to go too earthy too often because I am a strong earth sign, and sometimes it can be like earth overload! No one wants to try to get a lazy overly-earthy Taurean off the couch, haha.)
Eyeshadows Used:
  • Lid: Henna (pale mossy green), MAC
  • Crease: Neutral brown, L'Ancome

This is an example of a dark, vampy green (earthy) look. I don't do this often because of the deep, dark earthiness of it, which basically puts my personality on overdrive.
Eyeshadows Used:
  • Lid: Humid (deep green), MAC
  • Crease and Outter-V: Carbon (black), MAC
  • Inner Corner: Invitation (pale spring green), Bare Escentuals

Thanks Diandra!!! I think Witches often forget in our desire to reconnect with our human past that we can use modern tools (like cosmetics) to help enhance our spiritual practices :)

I love the burgundy color on your eyes!

Thanks Nisha! I was scared it'd look too red (I have really bad dark circles) but now I think it's probably one of my favourites :)

Thanks Livi! Honestly it just takes a little time and practice :) I was positively awful when I first started wearing makeup! I think I looked more like a clown than a teenage girl ;)
